- What is Family Spirit:
- A home-visiting program for infants, mothers, and families from pregnancy to age three.
- A service specifically designed for Native American families to promote optimal health and well-being.
- A program to help you become the best parent you can be,
- What this Program Offers:
- Increased parenting knowledge and skills.
- Decreased maternal risks.
- Culturally tailored approaches to physical, mental, social, and spiritual development.
- Promotion of early school success and pediatric healthcare.
- Assistance with development of healthy lifestyle skills.
- Car seats for all ages through the Wind River Family and Community Healthcare clinic.
- Welcome home gifts for new mothers.
- Incentives for completed visits.
- The Wind River Family Spirit Program combines the use of paraprofessionals from the community as home visitors and a culturally focused, strengths-based curriculum as a core strategy to support young families. Parents gain knowledge and skills to promote healthy development and positive lifestyles for themselves and their children. This program has been developed, implemented, and evaluated by the Johns Hopkins Center for American Indian Health in partnership with the Navajo, White Mountain Apache, and San Carlos Apache Tribes.
