Reaching Hands is a nonprofit 501c3 organization with a unique program that rescues horses and uses them to mentor at-risk youth 9-18 years. We were established in 2006 and serve youth and neglected/abused horses from our local communities in Wyoming. We provide a life changing rescue and rehabilitation experience benefiting children and horses needing a second chance.
Our youth “Ranch Hands” learn to care for the horses and assist in placing them in new homes. Horses are required to pass a safety evaluation. Each week of the 6 week program we focus on a lesson in character: citizenship, trustworthiness, respect, caring, responsibility, accountability.
This program is a wholesome, refreshing experience for youth participants who have suffered from loss, abuse, or neglect. We do not offer counseling or therapy, but the outcome of interacting with animals has a therapeutic effect on the children.
